Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. When she was five, she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at The Dragon School. Emma was only six when she realized she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She was trained for many years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a full-time school of theatre in Oxford where she was taught acting and singing. At the age of ten, she took part and performed the main role in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Casting began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was spotted by Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions Emma as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's debut film appearance came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001, the film set records for its opening day sales as well as the opening weekend's earnings. The critics were impressed by the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, called Emma's acting "amazing". Emma received five nominations for her outstanding performance. Then, she was awarded the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in an Film.
